报告摘要:
A business workflow (or process) consists of a collection of activities (or tasks), resources, and often human performers assembled together to accomplish a business goal. Examples include: admitting a student, emergency treatment in a hospital, granting a construction permit, etc. Business process management (or BPM) refers to the management, support, and improvement for a collection of inter-related business workflows, often within an organization. A software system that aids BPM functions is called a workflow management system (WfMS, or BPMS). At the core of design, analysis, and implementation of every workflow management system is the issues concerning data modeling and management. Traditional WfMS design omits data design till implementation stage. In this talk, we will discuss key technical challenges in developing WfMS and introduce design methodologies and management techniques that incude data design from the very beginning of the WfMS development.
