报告摘要:
Many of today’s mobile wireless communication devices are built based on what we call software-defined radio (SDR) technology. While an SDR can be an intelligent radio, a cognitive radio will go much further. It will have the ability to learn and be self-aware. Such radios will have the ability to interpret its surroundings and the needs of its owner so that it can perform the communications tasks autonomously. Just like a robot. Or a radiobot! This talk will outline our ambitious research program on wideband autonomous cognitive radios (WACRs) with some exciting recent breakthroughs. I will discuss the potential of cognitive radio technology to find increasing relevance in defense, military, homeland security and space applications in addition to consumer wireless telecommunications. I will conclude by extending the intelligence, self-awareness and learning to cyber-physical systems (CPS) that are networks of nodes glued by an underlying communications network.

报告人简介:
Dr. Jayaweera is currently a Full Professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, NM, USA where he was the Associate Chair of the Department and the Director of the Graduate Program in 2014-2015. His current research interests include cognitive and cooperative communications, machine learning, information theory of networked-control systems, statistical signal processing and control and optimization in smart-grid. Dr. Jayaweera is an editor of IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology, and the author of the Wiley book titled Signal Processing for Cognitive Radios published in 2014. He has also served on organization and Technical Program Committees of numerous IEEE conferences including currently serving as the Co-Chair of the Cognitive Wireless Networks Symposium at the IEEE Globecom 2015 and the Cognitive Radio Track at the IEEE VTC Fall 2015. His research has won several best paper awards at IEEE conferences and he has given many keynote addresses and plenary talks in IEEE and other international conferences especially on the topic of cognitive radios.
