Abastract: Temple University is a comprehensive public research university located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States. Founded in 1884, Temple University is among the nation"s largest providers of professional education (law, medicine, podiatric medicine, pharmacy, dentistry, architecture) and offers over 300 academic degree programs at seven campuses and sites on Pennsylvania and international campuses in Rome, Tokyo, Singapore, and London. It is the 26th largest university in the United States with more than 37,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students, and prepares the largest body of professional practitioners in Pennsylvania.The Department of Computer and Information Sciences (CIS) was founded in 1965. CIS is one of the oldest departments in the country, with 40 full time faculty members. CIS offers many opportunities in education and research at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including undergraduate programs leading to Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts degrees in Computer Science (CS) and in Information Science and Technology (IS&T). The graduate programs include Master of Science in CS, Master of Science in IS&T, and a Doctor of Philosophy in CS. In addition, CIS has two research centers, the Center for Data Analytics and Biomedical Informatics (DABI) and the Center for Networked Computing (CNC). Biography:Jie Wu is the chair and a Laura H. Carnell Professor in the Department of Computer and Information Sciences at Temple University. Prior to joining Temple University, he was a program director at the National Science Foundation and Distinguished Professor at Florida Atlantic University. His research interests include wireless networks, mobile computing, routing protocols, fault-tolerant computing, and interconnection networks. Dr. Wu publications include over 600 papers in scholarly journals, conference proceedings, and books. He has served on several editorial boards, including IEEE Transactions on Computers and Journal of Parallel and Distributed Computing. Dr. Wu was general co-chair for IEEE MASS 2006, IEEE IPDPS2008, and IEEE DCOSS 2009 and was the program co-chair for IEEE INFOCOMM 2011. He served as general chair for IEEE ICDCS 2013. He was an IEEE Computer Society Distinguished Visitor and the chair for the IEEE Technical Committee on Distributed Processing (TCDP). Currently, Dr. Wu is an ACM Distinguished Speaker and a Fellow of the IEEE. He is the recipient of 2011 China Computer Federation (CCF) Overseas Outstanding Achievement Award.
