Games are becoming very popular in recent years due to the advancement and the significant reduction on graphics technologies. Apart from visual effects, audio effects are also important to the users. However, audio synthesis has not been well studied, although it has a lot of useful applications including architectural design and noise modeling. In this talk, we present our work on synthesizing 3D audio sound dynamically. We propose a ray-caching technique to reuse previous sound rays to improve the sound rendering performance.

Rynson Lau received a first-class B.Sc. honors degree from the University of Kent and a Ph.D. degree from the University of Cambridge. He has been on the faculty of Durham University, City University of Hong Kong, and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Rynson Lau serves on the Editorial Board of Computer Animation and Virtual Worlds and International Journal of Virtual Reality, IEEE Trans. on Learning Technologies, and as the Area Editor of International Journal of Distance Education Technologies. He has served as the Guest Editor of a number of journal special issues, including IEEE Trans. on Learning Technologies, ACM Trans. on Internet Technology, IEEE Trans. on Multimedia, IEEE Trans. on Visualization and Computer Graphics, IEEE Internet Computing, and IEEE Computer Graphics & Applications.
